Week #7!!!!
Great, great day. Glad I waited to write about this week's action. I got some feedback from one of the other games from Remy on Sunday. Although, I do think I miss some thoughts if I wait too long. Hope I got enough for you to read.
Game 1 Field 1 was a barn burner. Something like 10-9 for a final score. Chris had four goals before halftime. And his little bro, Jake Remy, scored the game winner with one second left. Somehow I think Jake will remember that goal for a long time. Nothing like hitting the game winner. I hear Xavier was amazing as well. Relentless was the word to describe his play. Some mom's get a shoutout for chasing down a lot of soccer balls over the fence. Thank you for that!
Game 1 Field 2 was probably my favorite game of the year. Playing against Ethan, Bishop and Josh, I thought the game was going to be close. But they didn't plan on playing up against Team E. Parker, Jacob Lives as Keeper, Sam, Scott Petersen, Addison, Breanna, Emily, Andrew and Caden. The first half had Addison and Andrew absolutely owning the game in the middle. They dominated possession, created opportunities again and again, had open looks at the net, and won handily. Braun was insane as the other keeper, if not for him, the score would have been 10-0, easy. And guess what, not one ball over the fence during this game, or the game after.
But wait, costumes need a shoutout too. Arvy, that was way cool. The black body suit looked pretty cool running around out there. McKenzie as the cat, Chris in the grass skirt and coconuts (I seriously need to add that costume to my grouping), Kurtis as a devilish something or other, Jake Remy as a butterfly, Ethan with an insane mask that didn't even make Bishop flinch, Sawyer as the banana head Keeper (you play every position well, and not even bothered by the banana head), and some clown of a coach/referee.
okay, Game 2's. Field 1 had an interesting matchup, Yessenia not even backing down against her cousins. Tough to stand up to those boys. And I haven't mentioned Zak the Keeper much lately. Apparently he had a monster game as well.
Field 2's game was close. In every aspect, the teams were evenly matched. Erin looked good, as did Regan. They pulled ahead 2-0. But the other team didn't let them get that third goal. The defense stepped up, with Misha cementing the back line. I should have remembered who got the goals, but I was so intent watching the play. I was really pleased with David Gonzalez. He and Garrett Schmidt pulled the game to the touch lines on the side. David had a great couple of pushes to the corner with a beautiful cross to the center. The ending was bittersweet though. The sweet was a 2-2 tie going to a shootout. The bitter was David torquing (is that a word) his shoulder. Luckily, surgery is not required, but he is out for six weeks. We will miss you David. Get better in five weeks. Now, back to the sweet. Shootout was intense. Red took a 2-0 lead. I thought it was wrapped up on the third kick, but Braden took control. He had some amazing stops. After 5, tied again. Down to the sudden death kicks, and White wins it on that kick. Nice job Sammy.
Lots on my mind this time, but also wanted to write about the 3v3 on Monday. Cassie, nice job putting it all together. Dennis, thanks for your help too. I was amazed at how many people showed on time. I was actually late, and to pull in with that many kids was daunting. Loved it. I think we had close to 60 that night. Cassie and I look as forward to that night as the first practice of the season.
Thanks for making this such a great season. I can see improvement in many of you. Already can't wait for spring.
